AI Document Splitter
Intelligently Split Any PDF by Document Type

Upload a multi-document PDF and AI identifies where each document starts and ends - splitting and naming them automatically. Perfect for batches of vendor invoices, legal bundles, financial packs, and more.

What Is FormX AI Document Splitter?
FormX AI Document Splitter reads the content of a PDF and automatically identifies where each individual document begins and ends - then splits the file and names each output based on what's inside. Common use cases include splitting batched vendor invoice scans, legal document bundles, and financial packs.

Unlike traditional PDF splitters that cut by page number, FormX understands content to split intelligently.

How FormX AI Document Splitter Works

Step 1.

Upload Your PDF

Upload a PDF containing multiple documents - a batch of vendor invoices, contracts, statements, IDs, or any mix. Then input the different document types. Up to 10MB, first 20 pages processed in the free tool.

Step 2.

FormX Splits Each Document

FormX understands the content of every page and determines where each document starts and ends - identifying document type, page range, splits and generates an appropriate file name automatically.

Step 3.

What types of documents can the AI Document Splitter handle?

FormX can split and classify any document type - finance documents, legal documents, contracts, NDAs, agreements, bank statements, invoices, tax documents, IDs, passports, medical records, HR forms, and more. It works on any PDF regardless of layout since it reads content, not templates. Get in touch to learn more!

What PDF formats does the document splitter support?

FormX works on both native digital PDFs and scanned documents. Mixed PDFs containing a combination of digital and scanned pages are also supported. The free tool processes the first 20 pages. Schedule a Demo if you wish to process larger files or integrate via API.

Can I process more than 20 pages or upload in bulk?

Yes. The free tool is limited to 20 pages and single file uploads. A FormX trial account gives you access to batch processing (multiple PDFs at once), larger file sizes, and full API access for workflow integration. Contact us to discuss volume needs.

How are the split documents named?

FormX automatically generates file names based on the document content - for example, "Contract_AcmeCorp_2024.pdf" or "BankStatement_March2025.pdf". The free tool uses a default naming convention. With a free trial or paid plan, you can customise the naming format to match your filing system or DMS requirements. Reach out to us to customise through the FormX portal.

How does AI document splitting work?

FormX combines OCR, Machine Learning, and Large Language Models to read and understand the content of every page in your PDF. It identifies logical document boundaries - where one document ends and another begins - based on content, layout, and structure, not just page numbers or blank pages.

Is my data safe when uploading PDFs?

Yes. FormX is ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certified. Documents are processed in real time and not stored in any permanent storage after splitting. FormX does not use or share your document data. Read our data privacy policy for further details.

Can I integrate the document splitter into my own workflow?

Yes. FormX provides a full REST API that returns split document files and a structured JSON index containing each document's file name, page range, and document type. SDKs are available for Python, Node.js, Java, and .NET. See our API documentation here.

What industries use AI document splitting?

Finance and AP teams use it to split batched vendor invoice scans - where multiple invoices from different suppliers are scanned into one PDF and need separating for processing. Law firms use it to split legal bundles and due diligence packs. Insurance companies use it to process claims submission packages. Accounting firms use it to separate client document packs. HR teams use it to split onboarding document bundles.
